    クレオパトラは、毒蛇によって自死した。

    エジプトがローマに……
    カエサルやアントニウスのローマではなく、
    憎きオクタウィアヌスの統べるローマに支配された後。
    自らの王宮に幽閉された彼女は
    捕虜となるのを良しとせず、
    イチジクに潜ませた毒蛇にその身を噛ませたという。

    蛇はコブラであったとされる。
    嗚呼、それは何という偶然の皮肉。
    或いは運命、必然、まさか古き神々の意図であるのか。

    古代より連綿と続いた
    ファラオの王権と神性を示す蛇ウラエウス。
    その形状もまた、同じくコブラなのである───
