I know Eila's expression is supposed to be due to Sanya and Erica looking at her like that, but I can't help interpreting it as a "Why am I trying to read this book in Swedish? I don't know Swedish..."

maybe she's multilingual, I mean Sweden is like right next door to Finland. And I know it's only due to the anime, but she can also speak Japanese.

On another note, I do believe Eila has a bit of a harem going for her now. She has quite a few pairings, but I think a pairing with her and Erica is a rare, albeit, pleasant sight.

Eila's reading Tove Marika Jansson's Moomin novel called Moominland Midwinter, which is Trollvinter in Swedish. And considering that she's reading in a middle way of the book, she can speak Swedish (or Baltland in this case).

Swedish used to be compulsory learning in Finnish schools until relatively recently, so it's not so strange.

So should we tag this Moomin, since they are clearly reading a moomin book?

Late response, but still is. Also, Tove Jansson was Finnish (albeit a part of the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland) so it makes sense to have Eila read it.

I'm pretty sure she doesn't speak Japanese. All characters might be speaking Japanese in the anime, but that's because it's a Japanese anime. We can assume that they are all actually speaking English when they are talking with people of a different nationality.

IIRC in the one of the novels (Misfits, I believe) mentioned they are speaking in English

Most older Finns can understand Swedish perfectly since learning Swedish used to be compulsory in Finnish schools. Finland also has a Swedish speaking minority, but I doubt she's one of them considering her name and the pilot she's based on.

I would love it if, in the dub, each character was dubbed by VA's from the respective countries of the characters so that they got the right accent and also spoke in their native languages when speaking to others from the same country. Like, Hartmann, Trude and Minna speaking German when it's just them and no one else present.

Edit: Did I just fucking reply to myself?
    I'm an idiot...
