Hey, he was an apprentice to a wizard. Patchouli on the other hand is a witch-librarian and has a LOT of grimoires she either wrote or collected.

sad thing is, if you look at just what is presented to you, it looks like Patchy only cleaned her room, or possibly another room as well. considering how big the mansion is, she may not be anywhere near close to being finished.
