Artist's commentary

  • Original
  • Tell me the #LiloandStitch remake did not end with Nani putting Lilo in foster care and then going to college in California. It keeps popping up in reviews but I can't believe that a film with THIS line in it, would do that to Lilo.

I hate this live action. More than almost any other live action Disney's done until now. The only one who gets close to how much I hate it is Mulan. How can you miss the whole point of YOUR OWN MOVIE so much??

What is it with Disney live actions and radically altering characters to become the very anti-thesis of the characters they are adapted from? It happened with Mulan, it happened with Snow White, and now it's happened with Lilo and Stitch.

Why must we continuously alter characters to make them so much lesser than they are?

    > Disney has lost money
    > Investors spoke up
    > Announce live action remake as nostalgia bait
    > Stupid producers spoke up
    > Remake the movie to include modern values
    > Disappoint watchers who expected any last bit of quality
    > Lose money
    > Rinse and repeat

In case you haven't caught on the pattern yet.

...How do you think Stitch would react if Lilo abandoned him?

Lilo didn't "abandon" him, he was (almost) taken away by the aliens who created him.

This... this is genuinely traumatizing. This genuinely brought me to tears, and not in a good way.

Star Trek, Star Wars, Disney, and so many others, are examples of media that people watch to feel better. I look and hear about the modern versions, and for the most part, I feel worse. This is an incredibly dark time in world history right now, and rather than try to make inspiring media to counteract that, which would be very profitable, the ignorant, out-of-touch media executives and the venture capitalists that fund them just keep trying to imitate the way they think young people think, and they think "modern values" mean "depressing, cynical, and nihilistic". It's maddening.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if this is some deliberate, calculated 4D chess strategy beyond mortal understanding. Maybe people won't fight for the future if they think the future isn't worth fighting for? I don't fucking know.

To make Nani an "empowering girlboss", that's why.
