Cats don't grow a tail every 100 years. And even if, it'd be 800 years.

One tail per 100 years is for foxes. Cats get them every 10 years.

i'm pretty sure cats max out at 2 tails...

I looked around and found that cat youkai can have a number of tails besides 2, but they're just called Bakeneko (化け猫 Monster Cat) instead of Nekomata (猫又 Forked Cat). There's even one particular legend that involves a cat youkai with 7 tails

Well, Yamata-no-Oorochi had 8 heads...

I think I'm seeing a ninth tail here on her lower left there. It might be the same one that appears behind her head on the right at the top, but... well... with those clothes, I think she was meant to resemble Ran, with 9 tails.

I recall reading somewhere that nekomata/bakeneko max out at 4 tails....
