When you put it that way it takes the sting out, just a little bit. Still, if I could stomach buying a 3DS for it then I wouldn't have minded these two very much I think.

Actually, not even close. The game was supposed to use these two as rivals to Trigger and Roll. They were going to have two storylines, one for Trigger, one for Barrett. The only reason you're even saying that was because the demo that was planned was designed to introduce us to Barrett's style of gameplay so that we'd be ready for it in the main game.
Of course, unless the guys at Capcom were a bunch of masterful trolls, that's not gonna happen now... Still, make sure you get your facts straight before saying stuff like that.
