The author is getting hate comments on their twitter rn
I've read all the replies and QRTs (including the ones in Korean) of the tweet in question.
These hate comments seem to come from a single person in a single tweet, among all the otherwise supportive replies, simply saying, "Sorry, unfollowed."
Literally three people complaining about the art and nothing else.
Can we stop overreacting everytime a handful of people act like assholes? I don't even know why the artist apologized.
Then why they had to apologize? Obviously the intention for that mean comments is disdain, and what they did to the author is enough to make the author publicly apologize for this nothinburger of a fanart. Harsh criticism is one thing, but what they did to the OP is beyond criticism and just become unreasonable.

Because Japanese artists are so averse to conflict they apologize if someone so much as breathes in their general direction. You can read the replies yourself. The negative ones are like 1% of the total, and they're mildly disgruntled at best.
People like you blowing trivial situations like this out of proportion doesn’t help anything. If you were being honest about this situation, you could have just said, "A couple of people complained about the artist drawing yuri, so the artist apologized" instead of presenting it as if the artist was being bombarded.

This isn't an attempt of aversion of conflict as much as they're bending their knees on the hostile opposition with ridiculous demand. OP shouldn't have bend their knee on this nothingburger of a complaint, and ignore that bully of a clown until they got bored and leave them alone or have others start clowning on them until they leave.
By apologizing, not only did OP admit their wrongs (they're not at fault, at all), but they prolong the conflict by creating another faction that "supports" them. They're going to fight each other and eat themselves out, becoming indistinguishable to each other, whilst the chaos remains.
Does the BA fandom willing to stoop so low that they will invoke another Zamii situation that befalls the SU fandom in the past? No, they shouldn't. They should uproot and drove out these scumbags on any fandom they touch, before the rest got peer pressured into following this Eric Cartman and their views.
