Cause she spends too much time in conventions.

Doesn't look too hard, maybe the difficulty lies in performing it gracefully...

I just realized something, the white snake just appeared (it didn't show up last 4koma), and it is also confused.

Just tried this, substituting a hairbrush for branch. I think I know where this gets really befuddling: what are you supposed to do with your left hand thumb in between steps three and four? The rotation isn't possible if you keep your hand cupped like that.

Curse you, moon people, and your high dexterity rolls.

Speaking of Moon people, I wonder if Yorihime or Reisen II is going to show up?

FJH, I've been doing a trick like this with a pocket knife for some time. It's simple: get your left hand further down the hairbrush/branch, then use your left thumb and your index to create a rotation axis. Move your right hand up the branch and use your right thumb and index to create another axis, then rotate your right hand clockwise around your left hand.

With practice, you can do it with one hand and switch from regular to reverse grip with a knife very quickly.

I'm terrible at explaining, so this is simpler than it sounds. Try it and see if it works.

In short, pull the branch upward until the lower side is short enough to turn through the gap between the palm and the thumb? cmiiw

    What utterly random game mechanics...

You know you're a hopeless nerd if the first thing you think of when you can't understand how to do something is that you've been afflicted with an RPG status effect. (Oh no! I stubbed my toe for 3 points of damage!)

I know this is just nitpicking, but the heterochromia tag doesn't belong here since the only one shown with both eyes open is toyohime and hers match ("tag what you see" and all that noise).

Well, I'm used to doing different things with knives, but I couldn't really get your method to work. When I tried this, I simply moved my left thumb outwards a degree of two, then lifted my finger a bit to have the flower stick I was using pass over the thumb, and it was done.
As for knives, I usually flip them around by holding them between the thumb and the middle finger at about halfway up the grip, and making a snapping motion with the wrist to flip the knife from regular into reverse. Back, I either flip it around my middle finger with the index, or do a similar snapping motion inwards. Depending on how I tilt the knife before flipping it into reverse grip, I can choose to have it edge in or edge out (both positions have their uses)

Seika sums up what I meant. ThunderBird, I suppose that method would work unless there's sume rule that says you need to grasp the branch with your entire hand.

    ...Maybe we're over-analyzing this.

This comment is so late, but I got curious and tried it. With step 1, you hold it like the illustration shows. The transition from 1 to 2 mostly relies on the right hand... like pulling your right hand back with a bit of a curve and letting the left go along with the motion while holding on to the branch.

As for step 3, holding on to the branch with your left, you let go of the branch with your right, as you position your right to the part of the branch indicated on the pic. As for step 4, it's like the transition from step 1 to 2, only with your left hand doing the work.

    Spinning Round and Round
    Do you understand?
Now, then, we will be holding the ceremony shortly.
Take the branch in your right hand and support it from below with your left hand.
Rotate the branch clockwise like this, then offer it to the altar.
I'll be teaching you how to perform the tamagushi houten, so please remember this. Tamagushi houten (lit. 'sacred branch presentation') is an offering of a sakaki branch to the gods performed during traditional Shinto weddings.
    Huh?
    Oi, wind priestess!
Kogasa is confused! Sanae is very confused!
    Huh?
