An ecosystem that is flooded by water and features plants and animals adept to surviving waterlogged environments.
There are four major types of wetlands: swamp, marsh, bog, and fen. Swamps are dominated by trees, marshes by reeds, and bogs & fens by mosses. Bogs and fens are collectively called "peatlands" and feature a large amount of peat (partially decomposed plant matter) in their soils and due to this have poor soils that prevent larger plants from growing.
