    A drawstring is a cord that, when pulled, gathers up and shortens the material through which it is threaded. Drawstrings are commonly used to secure hoods on hoodies and hooded jackets and tighten waistbands on garments such as sweatpants and bloomers. They may also be used to to keep bags closed.
