Androgynous, beautiful men. Often drawn delicately with slender frames, long eyelashes, and long flowing hair. The archetypical bishounen is elegant, sensitive, emotionally intelligent, and often has a mysterious past, and may frequently be an idol or some kind of warrior. They often dress in ouji fashion.

While "shounen" generally refers to teenage boys, this tag is used more broadly for the archetype than any one age group – where as in Japan, "ikemen" is used for a more broad label.

Some examples of media that primarily focus on bishounen include danmei such as Heaven Official's Blessing and Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, boy's love such as Dramatical Murder, otome games, and male-focused idol games like Ensemble Stars!, as well as some other male-centric series like Touken Ranbu and Kuroshitsuji. Male characters in gacha games like Genshin Impact are also usually designed as bishounen.
