    高島田 投島田 つぶし島田

A vast array of Japanese traditional hairstyles (nihongami) that fall under the category of unmarried women's hairstyles (shimada); all of which share the trait of vertically-tied bow-shaped hair fastened against the scalp.

Sometimes tied with a motoyui (shown in image below).

    • Tsubushi shimada (つぶし島田)
    • Taka shimada (高島田)
    • Nage shimada (投島田)

    Other known styles:

    • Kyofu shimada (京風島田)

A noteable feature of this style was the use of red cloth to tie the hair.
