    プーティン

A dish of french fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy. It emerged in Québec, Canada in the 1950's, though it's exact origin remains unknown. It since gained popularity in the rest of Canada becoming a national comfort food.

In the US a similar dish called Disco Fries exists, originating from the US state of New Jersey. The primary difference between it and poutine is that it is made using shredded mozzarella cheese instead cheese curds. The dish's exact origin date is unknown, but it was named in the 1970's after the late night customers coming in from disco clubs.
