    闘神伝

    "Legend of Combat Arena Gods"

The very first 3D fighting game for the Playstation 1 platform, released in 1995. Toushinden is a primitive version of Soulcalibur, utilizing weapons combat in a 3D field, but with the addition of Street Fighter-like special attacks that each character can use. The sidestep was also introduced in Toushinden, which Soulcalibur goes on to use.

In late 2009, a Toushinden game for the Wii was released, although its title uses slightly different kanji - 闘真伝.
