William S. Clark (1826-1888) was an American professor who helped found Sapporo Agricultural College (now Hokkaido University).
Despite his short time in Japan, he is a generally beloved figure in Japanese culture and is known for the statue depicting him in Sapporo, Hokkaido, as well as for his parting words to his students: "Boys, be ambitious!"
