ashigaru (foot soldier)

Feudal Japanese infantry soldiers hired by warlords in addition to samurai for their battles. They were mostly conscripted from the peasantry until the end of the sengoku jidai. Often depicted as using spears and matchlocks as their weapons as well as wearing japanese armor and jingasa.
