breastplate
A type of armor that covers the front of the torso, but not the back. It is meant to deflect or absorb incoming projectiles and blows. Most famously used by heavy infantry and heavy cavalry from the European medieval era.
For armor that fully covers the torso, both front and back, use cuirass instead. For armor that only covers the upper chest, use chest guard instead.
