A prominent leader of the Republic of China. After having led the country starting in 1928, he was defeated by Mao Zedong's communist forces in 1949, from then on serving as the leader of the government-in-exile on Taiwan until his death in 1975. Due to betrayal by the United States and his army being depleted by Japan among other reasons, lost mainland China.
