gaia (mythology)

In Greek mythology, Gaia is the titan goddess of the earth, life, and the matriach of the Greek pantheon.

In the Greek creation myth, Gaia was born from Chaos, an entity of nothingness, and later created her sprouse Ouranos, the titan god of the sky, to give birth to the twelve titan gods. After the titan gods revolt against Ouranos' rule and rule the pantheon, they were subsequently detroned by Zeus and his siblings during the Titanomachy, creating the "current" pantheon. Due to her essential power in keeping the earth inact, Gaia were spared from both revolts.
