Kim Cheol is the male protagonist of After School Lessons for Unripe Apples. He is a third year student of Baekje Middle School and former childhood friends with the female lead, Hwang Mi-ae. Despite having an intimidating appearance, he is shown to be mature, diligent, and reasonable, though he is also easily agitated and does have bouts of childishness and jealousy. He initially had a bad reputation due to him having transferred to Baekje Middle School after getting into a serious fight at his old school, being given the nickname "Lucifer" by many of his peers.

He stands at a tall height, towering over almost all of his peers, especially Mi-ae. He has a scar under his right eye and a stern face, often resulting in people assuming that he is angry or upset even when he is not.
