pansy
A popular, decorative garden flower hybridized from Viola tricolor with other Viola species. Popular for use in flower beds.
Pansies come in practically every color of the rainbow. Pansies have a very distinctive flower with five petals, arranged with three petals on top, usually with a dark lobe pattern in the center that combines to give the impression of a butterfly.
This center, darkened pattern is generally how you tell pansies from violets and other Viola species.
