The Wicked Witch of the East is a fictional character from L. Frank Baum's classic children's series of Oz novels, most notably The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Most depictions of her are based on her from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz where she is killed by Dorothy Gale's farmhouse landing on her at the start of the story, and so is only depicted as a pair of legs sticking out from underneath the farmhouse wearing the magical shoes (silver shoes in the original work and ruby slippers in 1939 film) that get passed on to Dorothy. She is depicted in full in ABC's 2005 television film The Muppets' Wizard of Oz and Disney's 2013 theatrical film Oz the Great and Powerful.
