Yes. Siracusa is basically not-Italy with a lot more rain, and as noted run by the Mafia. Hell, Lappland is a full-on Mafia Princess (who's quite happily exiled from her family).
Conversely, Texas is Columbian (from a Siracusan emigrant mob family, however). And if there's one thing that's on-brand for the American to do to Italian food...
Also not mentioned in the picture. You aren't supposed to hold wine glasses like that. You are supposed to grab by the stem as to not alter the temperature by your body heat

pineapple on pizza is more of an acquired taste than a crime against food (although it still will offend a good amount of people)
Which is weird to me. Why be offended by something someone else eats? People who go around complaining about pineapple pizza sound like they were fed nails or something.

They were fed "quesadillas" or "empanadas" at Taco Bell and then called them "tacos". People fail to understand any region improvise international foods with any ingredients or methods at hand. Hawaiian pizza was an improvisation that went too right, yet some people feel it off like ketchup on pizzas.
Used to be that if someone was unnecessarily offended we'd laugh and stoke the fire. Then all of a sudden expressing your offended-ness means you have to disappear.

If it's not paired with the right counterpart (ham, bacon or anything else salty and fatty) it tastes utterly horrible, especially when cooked.

Well,it's hard to say that they have more rain considering the event is taking place during the rainy season,as several characters have said.
Just because salt and fat are prevelent in a lot of ingredients doesnt mean pineapple goes with it. It needs to be something that can blend with the bitter sweetness properly or it will not work.

The amount of lines they have about the rain and using it as an analogy suggests that Siracusa sees a lot of rain even outside of this season, though. That's my impression of it.

Nah. Pineapple is just good. I don't know how you think pineapples are bitter at all though.
Probably comparing canned pineapple and freshly cut pineapple. They tend to tasted worlds apart imo.
yeah canned are kept fresh in a high sugar juice so that affects their flavor. bult my point still stands, even fresh pinapole needs to be paired with a properly salty, fatty protein.
