Danbooru

qualify saber

Posted under Tags

Since 2009 there were only 18 cases of people removing the Saber tag to add the saber (weapon) tag, so I wouldn't say "easily mistagged" (not counting cases, where people changed it right after upload). And, only my personal experience on this site, I never thought that the Saber tag alone is really ambigous on danbooru, even when the name is. I do believe that "everyone" knows who and what Saber is.
If the tag gets qualified in the end, I have no problem with it. I still don't upvote, because I don't see the necessity.

I think (fate) is a terrible qualifier here. "Saber" is incredibly ambiguous, but adding (fate) only solves the ambiguity with non-Fate terms, and does nothing to address that she's not the only Saber class servant, and hasn't been for years. The argument that anyone interested in Fate "knows who you mean when you say Saber" gets weaker with every new piece of Fate media and every new Saber servant. Obstinate weebs who have been obsessed with Fate ever since the original VN are not the majority.

If we're finally going to change her tag, the only two options that make sense are to either standardize the Artoria tags, e.g. Artoria Pendragon (saber) (fate)/Artoria Pendragon (Fate/Stay Night), or, just use (fate/stay night) as a the qualifier, Saber (Fate/Stay Night).

My vote is for the former, so that the original Artoria will finally show up in autocomplete when someone searches Artoria_Pendragon*

Yeah, I'm with what blindVigil said. Saber (fate) is kinda ambiguous and I'm more in favor of her full name.
But I think there is no BUR right now to change it? So someone should make one.

I would be happy too, but I don't know which specific solution would actually be preferable, and I don't really wanna add more BURs to the ever growing pile of failed Fate requests.

I think if we go by the way we went to remove things like Jeanne's or BB's _(all) tags, then it should be Artoria_Pendragon_(Fate/Stay_Night) since I doubt we have any real intent on keeping her true name secret.

What about Saber Alter and Saber Lily?

I mean, if we apply the same model that is applied to the Jeanne case, with regular Jeanne being _(fate/apocrypha) and Jalter being _(alter)_(fate) and so on, then I think it'd logically be like artoria_pendragon_(alter)_(fate/stay_night) (or just _(fate)) and Artoria_pendragon_(lily)_(fate)?

All of these are fine with me, though if they make a Lily version of one of the other Artorias, like a Lancer Lily, which I wouldn't put past them, then we might need to change it to (Saber Lily). There's also Jeanne d'arc alter santa lily (fate) being the only Jeanne to have her "class" not separated as its own qualifier. Can't remember why we did that. All the other lily servants, as far as I could tell, have it separated as a qualifier.

Also, every time I get involved in one of these discussion, I end up finding even more Fate tags that just seem to be doing whatever they want...

We did it this way for Jalter Lily because that's the way her name is officially written in game and such, in contrast with other characters where it's usually separated with brackets like "Jeanne d'Arc (Alter)" and so on. They're usually consistent with putting in brackets but there's some little oddities in some cases. Jalter is Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) but swimsuit Jalter is Jeanne d'Arc Alter (Berserker) but then Artoria Lancer Alter is just "Artoria Pendragon (Alter)" just like the Saber one...

Just recently we have been moving to use names under which characters are known in the original medium, e.g. all recent Genshin Impact aliases. She is called Saber in the game.

I don't think this qualifier is all that necessary, Guaro already said why in the second comment, but if we are going to do it, then I would vote for saber_(fate/stay_night).
