See that kotatsu, me:feel weird, isn't that something for you to keep warm?
Do you know the famous saying of the great Russian commander Suvorov? "Ноги держи в тепле, живот в голоде, а голову в холоде", – говорил своим солдатам Александр Суворов. ("Keep your feet warm, your stomach hungry, and your head in the cold," Alexander Suvorov told his soldiers)
I still do not understand how Tashkent, who was built in sunny Italy and served her entire career in the warm Black sea, can have any trouble with hot weather. She should be used to it. Her namesake also has pretty high average temperatures.

Don't you know? According to people from other parts of the world with only the vaguest familiarity with the country, all of Russia is above the Arctic Circle. They have no such concept as "Summer" or "Warmth" or "Sun" there. It's the same reason Americans are all blonde and blue eyes, have giant breasts, and only eat fried butter, Brits only eat jellied eel and stargazy pie and take black tea intravenously, Italians only eat pizza and slack off, and Germans drive Tigers on their commute.

Wearing lederhosen and tirolerhats. Even Don Bluth had a Bavarian brass band play on a Hamburg quay in "An American Tail". Bavaria is the OTHER end of Germany.

South part of the country with a unique accent... check.
Perceived as conservative and racist by the rest of the country... check.
Bunch of secessionists... check.
Distinctive culture and clothing that somehow became representive of the whole country (to people from other nations) and got turned into national stereotypes... double check.

The fur lined clothing probably isn't helping. Though this gets back to the "all of Russia is arctic" cliche in itself, I'm with you though. I noted this all the way back when Gangut herself came out, she served almost entirely in the south too in areas with plenty hot summers.
