    When I was getting my hair cut at the barber's, I was asked stuff like, "Did something happen?" :-)
    There's a Japanese trope about girls getting haircuts when they get dumped.

    Before people were capable of making plastic hair-like enough for Barbie dolls, all dolls had the hair of real animals, with a preference for human hair in human-like dolls for purposes of being realistic. (Keep in mind, wigs were and even still are also made from human hair, as well.) Hair doesn't decompose quickly, so it's not like there's anything gross outside your just not being accustomed to thinking about these sorts of things. That said, before plastics took over everything, people generally made bags out of cow or goat bladders or stomachs or something because it was hard to make non-rigid watertight containers. Historically, people have been way more willing to handle dead animal parts.
