I think that's the first story with Aya and Momiji Karaagetarou does (except that quick apperance in the Patchy's diet plan).

I was thinking the same thing. I remember reading flying dogs to be the Chinese equivalent of tengu so it seems to make sense.

Beside the sky dog thing the joke is how Aya is saying Momiji's name, the first time is written in Hiragana and the second time is in Katakana that is usually used for foreing words and Momiji telling her that it doesn't matter if she changes how she spells her name she can't do that.

Katakana is not only used for foreign words; it can be used for emphasis as well.

Which is pretty annoying IMO. I've seen it enough times myself to spot the difference but a simple bolding the text or italics would work as well.
