By "footless_tights" do you mean toeless legwear? We don't seem to have a "footless" anything. Toeless legwear is specifically for uncovered toes, not the whole foot. Thighhighs also specifically cover the feet up to the thighs. I'm not seeing any tags that render detached leggings totally redundant.
What about leggings? What is the difference between that and detached leggings?

Because, yeah, a lot of them are just thighhighs and kneehighs that stop at the ankles or those weird sandal-boot-thighhigh hybrid things.

We have a leg warmers tag. It also has a lot of mistagging with socks.

Thighhighs and kneehighs that stop at the ankles count as detached leggings, why would those need to be gardened out? Calling them "leggings" might not be accurate but the whole point of the tag is for things that cover the legs somewhere from the ankles to the thighs

I misread your definition.
Though I still think that it's a weird tag (that has a valid existence), needs a better wiki, and needs a bit of clean up. I don't think posts like post #4304833 need it since you can't see the lower leg. Should just be thighhighs, no? And there're a few instances of what is probably the tagger mashing the "related to" tags when uploading, like post #4024594.

Leg warmers are supposed to end bellow the knee, but I see plenty of posts of "detached leggings" tagged as such.
This tag seems to have some potential use, but I'm predicting it will just be a mess of constant gardening with leg warmers and toeless legwear + thighhighs
