Multiple copyright tagging unrelated to the picture (different series, same franchise)

Posted under Tags

Should posts where the present characters appear in multiple series from the same franchise and the artwork is clearly about one specific due to settings, commentary and characters, contain all the copyright tags regardless? With the Fate franchise especially, sometimes I want to find specific Koha-ace only, Fate/EXTRA CCC only or Fate/Stay Night only illusts, but I find other stuff, like I'm browsing the umbrella Fate (series).

Some examples: post #5062549, post #4975339, post #4979682, post #4466511, post #5045864 and post #4966337.

If you search for Heaven's Feel, you find Heaven's Feel/ambiguous art, that's great. If you search for pokemon_*, digimon_* or other franchises, same, you mostly get what you want.

I remove tags from time to time and could do some gardening, but I want to see others opinions to reach an understanding before doing anything major.

No, we shouldn't be tagging Fate posts with every single piece of media a character has appeared in. We don't do this for Touhou, Dragon Ball, Jojo, or any series with characters that appear in multiple seasons or games. It makes a mess of searches having a dozen copytags on a post featuring one character with no references to any of those specific copyrights.

A lot of the time copyright tags are added regardless of the picture's content, which is kinda annoying. For example the Fate Grand Order tag often gets added "by default" to pictures just because the characters have appeared in it, even though the picture only depicts Fate/Apocrypha characters in the Fate/Apocrypha setting. Or, in some cases, pictures of Ryougi Shiki get tagged F/GO even though she's not even from Fate.

Just like with Touhou, relevant copytags should be added. If it's a mishmash of Fate characters then it's pretty much a Grand Order picture, if it's only Stay Night characters it should just be Stay Night, etc. That's how I tag it myself.

Thank y'all for your replies, I understand it pretty well, I only use multiple copytags if the image is ambiguous and though annoying, I'd say most of the times other users add them by mistake.

I needed this mainly because I've found users who mainly edits posts this way and I wouldn't call people out, nor mass edit posts without a clear understanding.

Ooooh, are we finally going to tackle the annoying habit of tagging six different Fate copyrights to images that are just FGO? I'd love to see that habit dropped, as there is no reason to tag outside of the specific media that is actually being used. The movie poster for Camelot shouldn't have Prototype, and we certainly shouldn't be tagging apoc every time Jeanne appears in an image. I can't imagine that the people who try to look up those specific series enjoy the FGO bleedover either.

It's not a Fate-specific problem either. About one fourth of Fire Emblem artworks are tagged Fire Emblem Heroes.

The over use of Fate/Grand Order and Fire Emblem Heroes can probably be explained by translated tags. Since those two games have almost totally eclipsed the rest of the series in relevance, artists will almost always stick those tags on their Fate/FE pixiv uploads, and our own uploaders will just 1 to 1 copy copyright tags.
