Pointless Pools

while tending to pool groups recently, i found some pools for art trends that based on a quick skim through, i think could easily be turned into tags. they're all listed in pool group:trends.

I am midway through sorting a BUR for this lmao. I also thought similar and there's plenty of them that could just be tags imo and would slash quite a few in one go.

For the record, this BUR is less meant to actually reflect opinion or viability (not that it will or has stopped people), and moreso to be a "stress test" in regards to Evazion's plans to kill collection pools. If this BUR gets approved, that'd indicate exactly the degree of cuthroatness moving forward.

Well, I say "people" but it tends to be the same few users responsible for the majority of noise.

This is essentially the reason I chose this pool as a test subject. It would've been highly subjective even before the pollution, but with it that'd be a greater argument for nuking it.

As for myself, I am ambivalent. I don't like fucking with tags or pools this old. But as a test of the concept, this pool was the perfect target.

i don't necessarily disagree with nuking disgustingly adorable, if the plan is indeed to do away with collection-type pools, then we're going to have to say goodbye to it eventually. it just feels like it's killing searchability of a niche without there being any kind of "cute" general tag to replace it.

Then I think a proposed tag would be a good idea then. My main issue is, I repeat, the subjectivity of the pool. Tags are not meant to be subjective, or at least, not to the degree something like Disgustingly Adorable, an already heavily polluted pool, would imply.

But I think if the pool can be converted into a tag, feel free to try and do so. I just don't think it'd work out, otherwise I would've gone that route.

If it's being used just as a "cute" tag then its standards are degraded already.

I don't disagree with having something like a cute tag if we need to move pools, though. More subjective tags seem like the natural end result (and probably as objectively taggable as something like fantasy)

that would be the main reason i'm conflicted. it is a niche that as far as i'm aware is good as unsearchable without the pool, but at the same time far too subjective to work as a tag.

I voted in favor of nuking, but only because I believe the current state of the pool is unsalvagable. In theory, pools like Disgustingly Adorable and Badass Adorable would collect the most outstanding examples of their niches, which is what they were for. In practice, they're just playgrounds for users who don't care about contributing to the site to stick whatever art they like in these pools with no standards, and it's too much work to moderate them. They're effectively just public favegroups.

No one's going to clean these pools up, so either we nuke them (and upset a lot of people), with or without a suitable replacement, or we write them off and just pretend they don't exist.

A solution (and not a very good one either) might be to create a favgroup of the valid examples, nuke the pool, and then convert that to a tag. But the issues are:

A: What are the valid examples?

B: How could this tag be ensured to not end up polluted to hell and back a la the pool?

The moment I saw the name, I knew exactly who made it. No idea why. Same reason as to why they created the white dove tag (which got aliased to dove for being redundant), and have a history of using collection pools to get around having their tags fixed, would be my guess.

Do we really need separate pools for each character's SSR art? Wouldn't it make more sense to put them all in the same pool? Users could just search for the character they want.
