Danbooru

Navigating pools/ stories searching.

Posted under General

As the number of stories (pools with storyline) is getting a bit too much, there should be something to help with searching them. A single "touhou" pool search already returns 46 pages, and subtracting non-stories would probably returns around 30+ pages.

One way is to enable tagging pools like posts, with category-defining tags like "comedy", "action", "slice_of_life" etc.., similar to those manga reading sites or fanfiction.net. Another would be changing the pool page completely, including categorization and making stories easier to find; right now, it's only a name-searchable list, which is nearly useless for finding stories. Either method would most likely require a huge overhaul of Danbooru.

You can also make a wiki entry with the list of stories with categorization, and this would require the least amount of effort, though someone has to have read those stories first.
Aside, descriptions of stories should be better written; I can find plenty of stories here with only a name.

Everyone chime in on this idea; there should be a method I didn't think of.

Yes, I'm aware Danbooru is not a manga reading site. However, if tons of doujin been posted here like this, then at least make then easily accessible. Currently, pools are even harder to search than posts.

This, at least, I think we can all agree on. Pools should, at a bare minimum, be searchable by description as well as by title, and it would be nice to be able to search for them by tags on their member posts as well.

A page which allows you to search pools based on copyright or category would be quite useful. Organization methods such as by name, date, and title would be nice. As an aside, it would be useful to be able to search for active/inactive pools so that it would be easier find finished pools and mark them inactive.

At the very least, theoretically someone could make a forum post listing all the pools and their contents, but the work would be astronomical and I'm not sure if the forum can be used that way...

There were already at least 2 forum threads discussing this problem, but they're quite short and the conclusion is the same: the feature for tagging pool or sorting based on categories (sequential images/themed collection/artbook) will be considered for Danbooru 2.

As for pool listing, if we must, I'd say making it a wiki is better. But the job will be extremely tedious: there are currently 115x20 pools - including ones with all their posts deleted. I'm not sure who is up to do it.

What, where? I searched, and didn't find any threads like that.
Or perhaps they're pushed so far back I don't have the patience to find them.

Well, they took over a decade to release Starcraft 2, so, I'd say so.

Technically, it only took 7 years to release, which still way too long. If you want delays, look up Starcraft: Ghost, it had far more problems before being postponed indefinitely.

You know what they say: "Good things come to those who wait."

That, or cancer.

Joking, joking. Though Danbooru 2 coming out soon would be awesomepants, I'm fully aware that Albert is one person doing this as a hobby. Blizzard and Valve, on the other hand, I'm less forgiving.

Would there be anything wrong with adding qualfiers to the pool titles? Such as [Artbook], [Comic], [Themed], ect.? I mean that would at least make that aspect searchable through the pools page. Of course it'd be a terrible chore to change all those titles, but it'd probably be worth it.

As an aside, Duke Nukem Forever is a better punchline than Blizzard, imo.
