Tag alias: neliel_tu_oderschvank -> nelliel_tu_odelschwanck

Reason: "Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck" is the official romanized name of this Bleach character, according to the book "Bleach: Official Character Book 2: MASKED", and related products.

EDIT:

Here are more aliases for the same reason. The author of Bleach simply invented these romanized names, thus made them official.

And, for the record, here are some examples of tags that already conform to the official romanizations from Japanese works.

"Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck" is not an adaptation invented by some licensed translator. This name actually appears in big black letters in the Japanese official character book.

The author of Bleach has the habit of inventing romanized (and rather non intuitive) names for every character who is an "Arrancar" in that series. There are tags for Nnoitra Gilga and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez as well.

He's clearly mad. You have read the story beyond the first arc, no?

I stopped keeping up with bleach and only missed the last 3 or so months, but I don't get what's the point of changing names around. Maybe when I start reading again, something'll pop up to disclose why Kubo's trolling.

The last three months don't focus on Hueco Mundo, so you wouldn't see now any character names written as weird romanizations like in the previous arc. And it's not a plot point or anything like that, it's just the names of a bunch of people.

I've stopped reading, but i've still kept up to date with the current arc. It's just that changing character names after people have gotten to know them seems dumb. Why not just do it like a week after the character is introduced?

I totally agree that it would be a lot better disclosing (or inventing) the official romanizations immediately.

However, technically, from the point of view of Japanese works, no name changed. In the original speech balloons in the manga, these weird names were written in katakana. For instance, "ネリエル・トゥ・オーデルシュヴァンク", which could be romanized "Nerieru tu Ooderushuvanku" or anything else before the actual romanization would be disclosed.

Then, one day, Kubo says it's actually "Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck".

Technically Daniel is as correct as can be, but...

We do [go by official romanizations] for non-japanese names, unless they are obviously completely ridiculous.

If not even the worst of Kubo's inventions are obviously completely ridiculous, could I get a few examples of invented non-Japanese names that are, then?

It's less a matter of ridiculousness and more a matter of "this name does not match those characters even on the worst of days" or "nobody would spell this name this way." There have been a few historical cases of our overriding official romanizations for non-japanese names but I can't recall them off the top of my head.

e: Cirucci was the only one I was going to protest, for the record.

In my eyes Sanderwicci goes to this category. The Sand- and -icci parts seem to come from Italian and the -erw- from English, hammered together in an impossible way.

I am not saying we should analyze every case like this. More like stating that when an author does not give a shit about basic research it gets really hard to decide what to accept and what to reject.

Safer Sephiroth, Helletic Hojo, Arucard, Jurius, Rally Connors, Bling Stabbity, Hilling Car...

Basically a lot of R/L confusions, and some V/B's.

Speaking about the latter, there's Belldandy (Verdandi), but that's pretty much firmly rooted in canon and fanon.
