Perfect pool purge perhaps?

Posted under General

Weighted tags are a neat idea but in practice nobody's ever going to bother weighing the tags. It'll be like 5 users who are mildly insane going through every post and maybe another 5 who see something weighted wrong trying to correct them. I've seen posts that were uploaded with a correct, popular, character tag go 3 months with no copyright.

1405*20 users on danbooru have one edit or more. There are over 5000*20 users registered. This is an insane number of users who have zero desire to directly contribute.

Isn't it the same with these pools, though? At least this way it would take more than one person's opinion into account. If people can bother favoriting posts, they can both marking the tags they like on the posts. You could even give them an incentive by letting them view the posts they've marked for a given tag, like a per-tag favorite system.

I don't see why this feature depends on getting every user to participate? The weighing for the tags on an image would only look at the users who voted for at least one tag on that image.

This is why it should be based on votes.... You could bold the ones above a certain threshhold and maybe show the percentage or ratio next to each tag.

And suddenly, I'm reminded of the + and - that I never use... Would it end up more cluttered this way?

This is not very different from the previously suggested personal pools feature. Perhaps the two could be combined and instead of having users to simply mark a post, we could perhaps have the weight be determined by the number of users who add a post to their pool (e.g. 156 out of 200 added post X to their Perfect Legs pool or something). In any case, I agree an incentive would be useful.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. For now:

Okay. So. Can we delete all of the pools in the OP by default, and then people can argue for undeleting specific pools, and then we can ignore those people?

+1.

That doesn't give you the images with the best asses, it gives you the images people like for whatever reason that also happen to have an ass in them. Not saying there aren't subjectivity problems here, but let's not pretend tag+favcount is going to get you the best instances of the tag.

Now, if there was some way to mark an image as being a good instance of a tag, THAT would be an excellent replacement for these pools. It could be tied into favorites, like you choose which tags are the reason you favorited an image. That would give a lot more insight into what people really like.

Posts with higher score/favcout are usually the ones that end up in the most "perfect pools".
Here's an example in ass order:favcout:
post #392092 is in 3 essentially identical "ASS" pools:

  • Perfect Ass
  • Squeesable X
  • Ass and Tail

and it's not even a well drawn ass...
If you use that tag search, you'll find most of the images that you'd also find in the pool.

And may I add the other 2 pools here to the list of pools to purge? One is just asses and breasts, the other is asses and tails.

There are always going to be posts that you don't agree are the best under tag+favcount searches, sure, but that's no different from the Perfect X pools.

Anyway, a tag ranking system similar to exhentai's is an interesting idea, but it isn't related to this thread. Anyone who wants to continue that discussion should make a new thread or an issue on GitHub.

So, a number of the pools were deleted. These ones from the OP are still left:

Can we agree to delete all of these remaining ones too?

We should make sure first that all the posts have appropriate tags, like sad in pool #4276: Beautiful Sadness, and also put the appropriate posts into the Artist Helper pool (did we agree on that by the way?)

Please keep Beautiful Hair & Eyes.

Perfect Hands & Feet are debatable.

I was the one who deleted them, after looking over them. I don't intend on deleting any of the others, so you'll have to find someone else to do it.

Exception:

  • pool #1214: Perfect Ass (5838 posts)
    • Intended to delete this one as it constituted about 7% (getting close to almost 1 in 10) of the images under the ass tag.

The ones I really don't see a see a reason to delete:

  • Seems visually consistent and easily identifiable:
  • Seems visually easily identifiable and could be made fairly consistent, needs cleaning:

It may be better to keep the Perfect Hands and Feet pools. They have good reference photos for artists as those body parts are fairly challenging to draw properly.

Some of the pools might be slightly less worthless than others, but a complete purge is what it takes to stop this cancer. Otherwise we'll end up having this argument again and again for Perfect pools new and old, without any concrete guidelines on why some stay and others go.

These are fine, for the reasons stated.

Naturally, pool #1214 got quickly revived as pool #7413 by MGSRocks.

I agree. People will just make new pools (as they have already begun to do) and will be somewhat justified in doing so: "If you allow Perfect/Beautiful X, why not Perfect/Beautiful Z?"

If some pools are to be kept, they should at least be renamed to something like "Artist Helper" as mentioned before and be cleaned up accordingly.

As already demonstrated in this very thread people are just going to keep recreating the pools regardless of how many currently exist so deleting them is a futile effort.

So you're saying people should be allowed to circumvent moderator decisions (which pool deletions are) as much as they want? Why?

Users see existing Perfect pools, see that they are accepted, and make more. Delete them all and apply the banhammer to anyone who gets out of line. Why should this violation be treated so differently from others?

Don't give up so easily. Stay strong. Fight the good fight.

Though I don't agree with a total purge (primarily for the hands and feet pools specifically, due to their infamy among aspiring artists, I'm on board with changing them to "Artist Helper" or something similar for reasons previously stated - I see less worth in all the other Perfect or Beautiful pools as there are myriad ways to make, say, hair or eyes look good) I must agree that there's no reason discipline couldn't simply be doled out as necessary for people who keep recreating Perfect pools. Starting with negs and bans may be too hasty as people need time to realize the pools are being deemed worthless, but actions could ramp up over time, from neutral records all the way up to blocking, until people would get the idea and stop if the moderation team makes it clear they're not to be remade.
