Agreed, it's just way too busy and chaotic, like she tried wearing five or six crowns at once. The rest of the suit is pretty solid as far as fantasy armour go, though. It's feminine without being retarded.
The lack of faceplate makes me think that it's more supposed to represend her authority while on the battlefield (if the ornated armor wasn't a giveaway).
Also, Didn't Merlin used an illusion spell to make her look like a man?

I agree. It's FAR less ridiculous (and realistic) than most of the female armor we see (chainmail bikini and the likes).
