I like this picture, but the scale is uneven. Look at the guy in the boat approaching the warship. He's huge compared to those set of stairs on the side of the ship, and it's not about the distance either, cuz he isn't even that far from it...

I think the boat is supposed to be a lot closer to the viewer than you think. Otherwise: "OMG that seagull is huge!". I agree with you though that it still doesn't feel right. The Yamato was supposed to be the largest battleship ever built after all.

Also it looks like the retrofitted space version of the Yamato is significantly different in form than it's real life version. The real one was significantly wider and had more deck space. Than again, wooden outdoor deck area doesn't really befit a spaceship.

Then again, neither does a naval hull that has been wrecked and sunk for 254 years. (The anime is supposed to take place in 2199 and the Yamato sank in 1945)

Yeah, the Japanese have a strange level of reverence for a battleship that was totally ineffectual in combat and was once chased away, along with several other big gun ships, by a small group of US destroyers whos' combined weight didn't even add up to the Yamato's.

If you have ever watched the first series (which I did) you would have realised by now that the Space Battleship Yamato is a brand new ship. It was made similar to the original Yamato and built INSIDE the old Yamato wreck to hide it from the Gamilons...

Actually that small group was supported by hundreds of aircrafts. Yamato didn't have any air escorts of its own... (this also is shown in the anime)

Damn, what's that other ship? It's not Super Atragon (that has a drill prow), but from the same time period. It's not the Chachamaru, either...is it from Iczer? Damn, why can't I remember?

LOL, none. Those two other ships are Earth Defense Force ships from the same Space Battleship Yamato series. One is a cruiser and the other a destroyer I believe... Those are Studio Nue designs that appeared in the second season and afterwards...

The farthest is a Andromeda-class destroyer, built to be more modern than Yamato, but the comet-empire wiped them all. Rested on old Yamato the responsibility of breaking that thing.

Actually the EDF ship on the right is a Borodino-class space battleship, which is loosely based on the Andromeda-class battleship hull [but the Borodinos didnt have the nose cone].
