Really late but is the yakitori grill less of a sore spot for AL Kaga compared to KC Kaga?
AL and KC shipgirls are different.
AL's shipgirls are sentient machines in shape of human that materializes when a Wisdom Cube gets infused by certain warship history. They inherit the ship's history but doesn't really internalize it as their 'own' memory. Case in example, many AL shipgirls has lines where they remembered their defeat and simply said that they'll overcome it as right now.
KC shipgirls are human-shaped spirits that materializes using fuel, bauxite and ammo as medium. They took on memories of their namesake ship and internalizes that as their own memory, which may cause negative effect to their psyche (like Yamato being averse to be called 'hotel').

I think AL lore is shifting more towards something resembling the KC description you gave, or a mixture of both. For example, the event where we get the Kaiserliche Marine ships, those are their memories, they are pulled directly from the broken hulls of the ships and made shipgirl, their personalities and skills reflecting their history. Then there's the idea that the shipgirls are the combination of the ships 'memory' as well as that of the officers and crew, such as in the event where we got all the II's. They are both the original and the successor.
