Thinking about the story. Children dying earlier than their parents will make their parents grieve. Also, logically they won't be able to complete their obligations as a child by giving grandchildren, supporting their parents in their old days, giving proper burial and respect after their death.
Ohh i see now, how unexpectedly a sad meaning of it..
another thing i like from touhou that it keeps involve the traditional culture so it gives more "eastern" feeling which is a very special feature to me.
