adonis (flower)
A genus of about 20–30 species of flowering plants of the crowfoot family, Ranunculaceae, native to Europe and Asia. Their flowers are red, yellow or orange and have 5–30 petals, with feathery, finely divided leaves that form a fluffy collar around each individual blossom.
One commonly depicted member of the genus is Adonis amurensis, a perennial plant with a double-flowered yellow flower that have around 20-24 petals each. Their Japanese name "Fukujusō" means "fortune-longevity-plant", so they’re also used for planting at New Year's parties.
