black sun (symbol)
A symbol derived from the ancient German mark of the Sonnenrad or "Sun wheel". It was used by the Waffen-SS in their buildings and installations during World War II.
The symbol's design consists of a circle with twelve radial sig runes. It first appeared in Nazi Germany as a design element in a castle at Wewelsburg remodeled and expanded by the head of the SS, Heinrich Himmler, which he intended to be a center for the SS.
