kerokan

In Indonesia, Kerokan is a ubiquitous folk remedy used to treat masuk angin (literally "trapped wind"), which encompasses symptoms like bloating, chills, headaches, and fatigue.

Unlike the polished stone tools used in facial treatments, Kerokan is traditionally performed using:
A blunt-edged object: Often a vintage coin (like the iconic benggol), a porcelain spoon, or a specialized plastic tool.
A lubricant: Usually a warming ointment, ginger oil, or coconut oil.
The Technique: Firm, repetitive downward strokes on the back, neck, or chest until dark red marks—called "titik-titik angin"—appear.
