Matthias appears in the flesh in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, serving as one of King Dimitri's closest advisors along with Duke Fraldarius.

Matthias is the father of Sylvain and Miklan. As Margrave Gautier, he serves as the lord of one of the foremost territories in the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus; the Gautier lands bordering the nation of Sreng to the north. For years, he wielded the Lance of Ruin in defense of the Kingdom, warding his land from repeated Sreng attacks. In Three Houses, he eventually cedes the Lance to Sylvain after Miklan dies trying to use it.

Matthias disinherited Miklan over his lack of a Crest in favor of Sylvain, which made Miklan turn to banditry. While the Lance of Ruin is framed as necessary for the defense of Gautier territory, Matthias's actions directly caused Miklan to go down an awful path of tormenting Sylvain and wreaking death and destruction wherever he and his bandits ventured. These events have embittered Sylvain with his father and the Crest system, and are indirectly to blame for Sylvain's philandering ways.

Matthias has short red hair and brown eyes. He wears a brown set of full armor adorned with a fur collar.
