    mikan box

    みかん箱 ミカン箱 蜜柑箱

A box used to pack mikan (mandarin oranges). They can be distinguished by "みかん" or an orange being printed on the box. The mikan box is a recurring trope in anime and manga, with a disproportionate fraction of all cardboard boxes being mikan boxes. In particular, a kitten or puppy abandoned by the side of the road is almost always in a mikan box.
