monk

僧侶 そうりょ 坊さん ぼうさん 修道士 しゅうどうし 僧 そう 法師 ほうし 修道服

A character who is a member of a religious order and lives in a monastery, usually celibate male. He usually lives his life in prayer and contemplation. The concept is ancient and can be seen in many religions like Christianity (mainly Catholicism and Orthodoxy), Buddhism, etc.. The female counterpart is nun.

This tag may also apply to females wearing monk attire.
For tagging purpose, friars can be included within this tag despite the real-world canonical difference of their order and lifestyle.
