turkey (country)
The Republic of Turkey is a country located at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, largely based in Asia Minor. Born a secular country out of the ashes of the Ottoman Empire, and technically still so. The people there are not Arabic, but Turkish.
In May 2022 the Turkish government requested to the UN to formally change their official English name to the Republic of Türkiye to better reflect their heritage and avoid association with the bird, or as critics suggest it's to avoid the association of the other meaning for the word turkey in English.
