Two Questions

Posted under General

Trying to upload this image:
http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=12636649
I get a "Error: Preview couldn't be generated (Unsupported color conversion request)"
Is there a way to bypass this?

and...is there a way to replace images?
For post #728577 there's a bigger image here:
http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/227/1/e/Sunset__by_Effier_sxy.png
Since I don't think it's necessary to upload the same image twice if it's just bigger

Upload the big version, not the medium one you linked too. See forum #46364.

There is no way to replace images (although I asked for this very feature). But, absolutely upload the same image twice if you have a bigger version. Just set the smaller version's parent to the newer one.

Most pictures that are the same but are a higher resolution can be uploaded and you could set the images as parent and child posts, like Coconut mentioned. From what I saw the mods will normally delete the smaller of the two so long as there is no difference other then size between the two.

This is completely untrue except in cases of pixiv samples. We do not delete duplicates.

ah the only time I've seen it happen was with the pixiv thumbnails so that would make more sense, I probably should have worded it as such

I also tried to upload that earlier, we tried the big version and it gave that error. I don't really get it

The image has an unusual colorspace - YCCK instead of the usual YCbCr you find in Jpeg images. This is the colorspace you'd use for printing it out - not for displaying it.

Most browsers and image viewers can show it correctly anyway though, but apparently Danbooru's thumbnail generator cannot handle this colorspace.

I dunno what you should do, either wait for the thumbnail generator to be fixed (which could potentially be a long time), or re-save the image in YCbCr with the inevitable loss of quality from re-saving a Jpeg file.
