sdf-1

SDF-1

A legendary, massive, fictional variable spacecraft from the MACROSS science fiction anime series.

The U.N. Spacy SDF-1 (Super Dimensional Fortress One) "Macross" is the titular space fortress (and mecha) from the anime Choujikuu Yousai Macross released in the 80s.

This massive alien spacecraft was originally a Supervision Army Gun Destroyer that crashlanded in South Ataria island on Earth in the year 1999 (codenamed ASS-1 or Alien Space Ship One by U.N. Spacy scientists), but was later repaired and reconstructed, thus becoming humanity's main defense against the Zentradi.

The SDF-1 is 1.2 km long and can transform from Cruiser into Storm Attacker mode. It is equipped with a "Fold" drive that enables the ship to travel through Super Dimension space (or Hyperspace), thus making it capable of traveling several light years between different star systems in a matter of hours.

The Macross is armed with a very powerful "Super-Dimension" (hyperspace) energy cannon with a beam polarizing converging system, as well as several energy cannons, electro-magnetic rail cannons and anti-ship missile launchers.

The ship also has several QF-3000E Ghost drone fighters, VF-1 variable fighters and many Tomahawk, Defender, Spartan, Phalanx and Monster Destroid mecha on its multiple hangar bays.

In real life the SDF-1 was designed by Miyatake Kazutaka in the early 80s. The design was inspired by the Yamato from Uchuu Senkan Yamato and the White Base from Mobile Suit Gundam.
