Deadpool (Wade Wilson) is a mercenary and anti-hero appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. He first appeared in The New Mutants #98 (Feb. 1991), created by artist Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza.

A disfigured, mentally unstable mercenary with a regenerative healing factor, Deadpool appeared as a villain in New Mutants, and later X-Force. He has since starred in several ongoing series, sharing titles with other characters such as Cable. Known as the "Merc with a Mouth", is famous for his talkative nature and his tendency to "break the fourth wall", which is used by writers for humorous effect.

With his inclusion in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 his ability to break the fourth wall has been taken to a whole new level. The character would become significantly more popular after the release of a 2016 film of the same name, followed by a 2018 and 2024 sequel.
